These dresses have still to be laundered and mended but i was just looking for any info / dating etc so anything you could offer would be appreciated no end.

Again i dont want to be rude asking one by one and sorry for posting so many! Im really trying to learn and adore this forum for that - youre all very helpful and i am very grateful for your time.

This first one i actually cannot even guess age wise.. its very heavy fabric and has a popper down front and side.

This second one looks 60s to me but the lining threw me a bit. It has really lovely long sequin type beading around the collar.

This third feels a lot older and needs a good bit of stain removal / mending - its already got a few repairs.

Sixth perhaps late 50s/early 60s? Has a really beautiful pattern running through the fabric you can maybe just see on the close up zip photo.

Dress eleven - Advice on stain removal would be great for this one. I think it could be taken up to a rather mini mini if it really wont budge.

Dress fifteen - I have some Vera Mont dresses but they are from the 80s and the label is quite different. The style of the dress looks 60s to me.

Thank you very much again. Susan x

Haha trust me!
I did see another post here where there was a back to front dress and it did look so much better when it was turned around!
I just wasnt sure with the way the collar was.
A good start though thank you haha

You're right - that's a lot of dresses. Here goes - all come with a disclaimer because more information really helps.

1- Early '40s, Mary Jane beat me to the backwards punch.
2 - '60s. Think it might have been full length originally.
3 - Not sure; what sort of openings? Probably '30s or '40s but more info needed.
4 - agree with '50s.
5 - Probably early '60s, is it cotton? If you can tell us fabrics it helps lots.
6 - Early '50s.
7 - '50s. Again, fabric info helps.
8 - Looks '80s.
9 - Early '50s nylon.
10 - '50s. Probably had sleeves originally.
11 - '50s. You could try soaking the dress if it's rayon, forget about it if it's silk brocade.
12 - Looks like a shortened '50s.
13 - '50s - early '60s. Fabric???
14 - are the sequins original? If so, I'm thinking '60s but it could be earlier if they're added. Side zipper
15 - agree with '60s.

Susan, these big posts make it hard as they're unwieldy (I had to open this one twice to avoid scrolling up and down continuously) but if you could please tell us more about the dresses (eg, labels, openings, fabrics, alterations), it will make it much easier for us to date them and you'll get more accurate info.

Nicole im sorry!
As soon as ive doubted myself on one dress i begin to second guess myself on it all hence these crazy posts.
No more i promise!

Dress three has poppers to one side but only 2 are left - i dont know whether to even attempt mending this one.
The fifth is cotton yes!
Seventh the cream one is quite a stiff fabric with a sheen to it - probably doesnt help but the best i can do.
And fourteen - the black dress- i noticed there is also another cut out label at the back waistband. The sort of modesty panel to the front fastens with one popper at the top but is sewn the rest of the way round. if this was an addition then the sequins could have been too as their stitching is behind this panel.

Thank you and sorry again!

Just to say posting about 4 to 5 max in one post would be easier for us to take a proper look at them, and of course as Nicole has already mentioned label, fastenings and fabric id are a great help.

We love to see your finds, it's just this system makes it difficult to peruse so many at one time.

May I just add that most of these dresses should not be laundered. The only ones I would wash are the ones you are sure are cotton. The rest should be dry cleaned to avoid shrinkage.

#10 reminds me of a Bernetti Originals I had awhile back, which was indeed 50s, and did indeed have sleeves (very short ones). Can you find a label on yours?

As others noted, we love looking at everyone's goodies and trying to help, but smaller batches are better, to avoid confusion (at least on my part--I'm not good at retaining so much sequential information) and also because it can take a very long time for a post with so many photos to load--those with slower computers or internet connections are at a great disadvantage when trying to view such an image-heavy thread!

STAIN REMOVAL

Hi,
on the shiny dress with the two brown stains.. turn inside out and try perioxide pour it on the small stain first and blot blot blot!! DO NOT RUB. Regular, clean my cut perioxide will do, not hair volume perioxide.
If it doesn't come out with the blotting, then post what happened with the stain here. Did it lighten? a little a lot? etc.

I really like this post very much and all the information that you have shared in this post is totally unique. I like it very much.
