A little quiz for you.. why did I buy it?

Well..you bought it because the way the seller has it displayed around the neck...you don't know if thats the intended wearing and you think you can display it much better?

Did i get it right?

the label to me looks older than 80s, but that's just my foggy eyes.

Well I am going to explain and see if you would have done the same. I happened to have read something somewhere or other the other day about Princess Diana. (I am no big royalist or anything, I mainly read it as it was fashion related)

Am pretty sure this dress is the same as the dress she wore for her official engagement portrait, when she used borrowed jewels instead of the queens to accessorise and it caused the first of many little hiccups, apparently.

Can't find the article now (probably at mum's) and this is the only pic I could find online..

but you get the idea.

I saw it on ebay and thought it looked familiar (but first off - me too Chris - thought it looked 40s!) but couldn't place it. Then realised it was the same designer, and infact i'm pretty sure the same design as Lady Di wore, and sparked off many a trend.

To be honest I just left a bid on the start price as I thought it was quite sad that a dress that people would have loved to own at the time goes unwanted! And although perhaps not aesthetically for me, it would be an interesting thing to hold on to from a social history perspective (not necessarily a monetary one I realise!)

Silly of me?

There's even a *doll* with the Nettie dress:

Robina Ziff, who owns the Escada shop in Bond Street, recalls: "Long before we got to know her officially, I think it was before she became engaged, she came into our Knightsbridge shop in a green Loden coat and tried on an evening dress in apple green tulle by Nettie Vogues. She really liked it, but she said, 'I must ask Daddy, because it's awfully expensive!' I'll always remember that. Shortly afterwards, her engagement to Prince Charles was announced."
