A nice article in Jezebel

Melody, that is nice, and I enjoyed reading your excellent contributions.

Not by you, but was somewhat taken aback by "Don't shoplift"!
Kidding on the square, I guess.

It is a topic worthy of discussion. There are subtle interactions and situations that invariably arise.

Was just in to Banana Republic yesterday, to see what was new. The manager is lovely, and has been there for some time, as the store has shifted locations. She really was gracious. I confess, I go in with $10 off coupons, and work it. Like yesterday, I walked out with a gorgeous Italian leather python pattern belt, with a great little buckle, for like $6. Yesterday, was the launch of the Mad Men collection, and it was dead in there. Granted, it is August in the desert. Anyway, I do what I can. She knows to let me take my time, without undue interruption, and that I'm not a big spender, Lord knows. Nonetheless, everything is congenial, and that's what it's all about.

The "don't shoplift!" quote got a chuckle out of me too, Joules!

I must say that the customers I meet in my business are usually very nice people. We do the Sowa Vintage Market in Boston on Sundays and I really look forward to seeing and talking to the the shoppers. I can only think of a couple instances when I feel I was treated poorly. Most of the people are very respectful towards me AND my merchandise. I LOVE doing the Manhattan Show and the Sturbridge Show for the same reason. Maybe being around vintage just brings out the best in people :)

Oh! and your python belt sounds delish'!

Nice article Melody, thank you for posting. I liked reading the comments too.

I agree with you about vintage perhaps bringing out the best in people but I think that you deserve some credit too: I've seen plenty of vintage dealers who don't get treated with respect, I think it has a lot to do with how you hold yourself and behave too.
