Ok every one, as long as I personally remember ( Pink is for girls, Blue for Boys) this is the rule of thumb here in the UK what mother use to dress their babies.

On a UK TV program about children's toys a expert said that was not always been like that and once the other way around as they were saying pink is seen today as a girly colour and if you look in a toy dept today there a lot of pink or shades of.

Any one got any thought on this?

Pauline.

I was reading recently that the pink/blue thing came from China - that blue dyes were more expensive and so reserved for boys but I like Daisy's version better - and it's more recent and relevant to Western culture.

Certainly I remember that the colours weren't used as much in the '70s and '80s - when my youngest brother was born in '74 I knitted him a set of clothes before he was born. I made them in white and crocheted hot pink ribbons for the drawstrings. Nowadays, I don't think anyone would do that unless they knew it was a girl but as a baby he still wore them and no one cared about the pinkness.

As an aside, I read an interview with Pink the singer, who is mentioned in Daisy's blog piece, saying she's been called Pink since she was a child, because she was a blusher, and would always turn bright pink when embarrassed.
