A Rant About Body Image

Jody, left a response on your blog, but couldn't post it.... problem with my google sign in. Anyway, just wanted to say great blog post and thanks for highlighting this issue. That model looks soooo unhealthy. It's pitiful that young woman in this day are still being "told" that this look is beautiful, sexy, etc. It's not!

That painfully thin model with blackened eyes and severe hairstyle, along with the jumbled backdrop, looks more post-apocalypse than fashionable. It really distracts from the dress.

Great Blog, Jody.

I think it's horrid the way designers decide what body types are hip. I can hear the roar of 5000 high school girls puking as they try to emulate that model.

Geez. I'm a size 4 or 6 but I don't look "sickly" like she does.

I just look old. ;)

I love Blumarine, and normally love they way they style their ads but I must agree. What is the point of all that beautiful draping if it just hangs with nothing to.. well.. drape from

Great post Jody - and the photos are fantastic. Vintage = glamour, there's no doubt about it.

As well as the tall and scrawny, I don't get the bad posture, the hunched shoulders - a famous model came into my shop and she looked like an alien with her wiry frame, oversized head and shoulders hunched over! Another famous model crossed the road in front of me the other day with the same pose....I wanted to call out "stand up straight my dear, your back will thank you for it!"

I left a comment, and then emailed the link to my daughter. She's a freshman in high school and she's always been stubborn and contrary - two traits I treasure now that she could instead be another teenage sheep. She was very vocal in her distaste of that poor, emaciated girl - score one for the real women! Now to just turn her on to a 50's circle skirt sundress ;) (a mom can dream, can't she?)
