A teasure trove of vintage shoes, but bad size?

I ran across the most wonderful load of shoes last night--around 10 to 12 pair of pointy-toed, spike-heeled pumps from the 50s & 60s. De Liso, very old Life Strides (never saw such sharp styles in LS before), privately labeled shoes for a local shop long since deceased, a pair of 60s suede "booties," a pink metal-studded open-toe pair of high-heeled sandals, many with the name "Jolie" on them, etc. Most in outstanding condition. Someone must be clearing out an estate, as I found several bags of the same era & style (bought 2 of those). Some of these would be great VLV shoes. A fab pair of floral fabric shoes w/matching bag, but the shoes are all stiff & hard....

Problem is they are all size 5 1/2 (maybe a couple of 6's). If I still wore that size I'd buy 'em for me! I'm concerned about resale value. I've had both good and bad luck with the smaller sizes--they sell, but often not at decent prices. And the nicest of these are priced such that if they don't sell for more than $15 and up, it's not worth it.

For those of you who sell a lot of shoes, do you think these are worth picking up at full price, waiting till they go on sale, or passing altogether?

Thanks!

I don't sell many shoes, and I almost always pass by anything smaller than a 6 1/2. I'm anxious to hear what others have to say!

Well I am the "shoe queen" here....well as far as selling not knowledge and history. But those sizes are VERY hard to sell, if you can get them for a buck a pair get them...otherwise, personally, I would pass on them.

I've had decennt luck with them, strangely enough. That said, no, I wouldnt PAY much as the sell through is slow and not tons of money....but with really unique, mint condition shoes there is a market for smaller sizes. Several people who have bought them from me have emailed to say its their size, and they have a hard time finding them (I also mention they are great for collectors to display)...also, open toe shoes can accomodate about 1/2 size larger so keep that in mind.

I've had to pretty much just sit mine in my eBay store & wait, but I bet I've sold 15 or so pairs over the last year.....

Good luck with whatever you decide! Ang

Re-read your post & I have to clarify......sadly & strangely, 50s/60s spike heel pointy toe shoes (my personal favorite style), dont sell well on eBay even in size 7! I just bought a fabulous pair of red ones w/ scallops around the top, a little bow....never worn, perfect 7.....I was the only bidder at $14.99. Happy me, but its a strange thing that they really are the proper shoe to wear for VLV/50s 60s bad girl looks but they dont sell well at all.

The ones I've sold in tiny sizes were 30s & 40s.

Sorry! If they were 7s I'd say go get 'em & I'd paypal you the dough for the lot of them!! Love those......!

If they are REALLY nice shoes, they will appeal to collectors. Shoes like Levine, Vivier, Ferragamo, Seymour Troy etc. can do well even, especially if they are small because they display better but they have to be really nice, not just wearable nice, but museum display nice.

Hey, Jonathan, thanks for the info! De Liso is probably the "best" of the names, and I did well on a pair I sold last year. I wish I could find or figure out the brands on the ones that have store names on them--some of them are quite obviously very high quality. But, I think I have a pair of Ferragamos on hand--didn't know how collectible they were; will have to find them!!! And I passed up some Levines a while ago--won't do that again!

Thanks to all who have responded--if I can get some of the nicer ones on sale, I'll pick them up; otherwise hope they find some small feet to fit!
