A true 20s dress?

Hi ladies and gentlemen! I'm back with another dress question. I recently bought this dress at a shop and it was labeled "20s reproduction". However, the fabric seems pretty accurate for dating back to the 20s. The fabric is crepe with a "hairy" pipe-cleaner feeling copper detail. What do you think? Is it real or a later-made garment?

Hi,

It may have been altered at some point, but it looks right for 1920s to me. Fabulous novelty fabric, looks like silk. And I love the ostrich feather trim. If it is reproduction, where in the world did they get that high end unique fabric? Or perhaps they made it up using antique fabric. Even the color scheme is 1920's.

I love it.

Thanks Barbara...I thought so, too! I bought it in a rush and didn't have time to investigate it thoroughly, but was just happy to have even found a 20s reproduction as beautiful and well-priced as this. Only when I got it home and started looking closer, did I start to think it really is a 20s dress. The fabric is what really sells me...but the inner seams and bottom hem stitching seem a bit off to me still.

Thanks again!

That is really lovely...the fabric design makes me think of King Tut's burial headdress - the colouring and the striped design, there was a lot of influence for all things Egyptian with the discovery of Tut's Tomb in 1922.
I'm sure Tut's was gold and lapis lazuli (or some other exotic blue stone) but this still makes me think of it.

Lucky you!!!

If it was a reproduction, I'd assume that it was made close to the 20's at least. But regardless, it's spot on! And how incredible to find it in such marvelous condition.
