Its like some type of background material with little patent leather like squares....material only evident on close inspection.....should i just call it some type of patent like squares and not worry as much about identifying the other component?

when i heard about this purse, from the description i immediately thought it had to be 60s/70s without even seeing it... when i got it, the same person i aquired the navy from was very adament "oh no this is an OLD OLD purse!!!"
the hardware is quite different and much older seeming than what i expected, but the straps, although similarly patina'ed on the hardwares says "newer" - as in not the 1940s that she claimed....i am going with 60s at this minute.....at least that was my initial gut...

I don't know what the lady was thinking. everything she had was magically "1940s". things were a little psychedelic back then in the 40s LOL. i am going to use the b/w scan with this...but its so...well..different...it may not need it.

I've found that a lot of people forget how old things are - it's really sort of odd to me.

My guess is 60s, too - quite space-age both in materials and versatility! Nice!

Not sure what you would call that fabric technique, but that is one
cool (and I too think 60s) handbag!!!

I came across a seller the other day who had all 80s dated as 50s stuff. I looked at some of her auctions that were still clickable on her feedback and
at least she's consistent! :D

That is sooo cool!!

I used to deal with a lady that really did not know her vintage even though she thought she did. She pulled out a blouse one day saying this is an extremely old poets blouse. As soon as she pulled it out there was a label "The Limited" on the collar.

well...let's see...when was "The Limited" started : )

I think i might use "space age materials". that phrase always reminds me of an infomerical or the "as seen on tv...buy now .." commercials : )

Very cool bag! I think 60s too.

Funny, I was at a local SA where the lady in charge thinks everything is valuable. She had a big woven raffia duffle bag with a huge wooden handle marked 49.99. I inspected the bag further because it was in pristine condition. The label inside read "H & M". Probably cost 9.99 brand new!

I'd deffinately say a 60s handbag. It's just the style that Mary Quant and Cathy McGowan were mad on and used to rave about in the 60s magazines - particularly Mary Quant. They used to like little handbags what you could only fit money and make-up in, and which were on a long thin strap.

I'll see if I can dig some quotes and pictures out for you from my 60s magazines, but I can't go through them until this evening as I'm on my way out for my Italian class in a few minutes.. :-)

Oh, and just a silly thing to mention, but I have some 1960s wallpaper in my hallway that looks just like the white version of the handbag! LOL!

Oh really? i would loooove wallpaper like that!!

It actually is not tiny believe it or not...10 inches tall...12 inches wide...

have fun at class!

wow, I never imagined it would be such a big bag... it looks so perfectly like the cute little sixties bags that you can just cram a few notes a lipstick and a mirror in.

Well, it's very much the shape of those bags, the same sort of material, and has the long thin shoulder strap. SO I'd still say 60s, but the size has totally thrown me!

Maybe you can say it's the super groovy style that Mary Quant loved, but with extra space to fit everything but the kitchen sink in! LOL!

its for Mary Quant when she was going for an overnighter : )

Kitchen sink LOL

Someday show us a pic of your wallpaper...i am dying to see it!
