Adrian and Paper Patterns

Greetings all,

I am new to your board. I am in a graduate program and researching a c1945 Adrian Suit with an "Adrian Custom" label,.. but in addition, I am also looking at a clearly not Adrian suit from the same period that looks like it was cut from a commercial pattern. Are there any resources for searching for mid 1940's commercial suit patterns that may have been inspired by Adrian?

Thanks in advance!

There are people on the board familiar with Adrian. A picture of the suit would help people help you better as well. There are also several members very knowledgeable about sewing pattterns, and hopefully they would be by to give some input

Also, many designers and clothing makers "borrowed" from eachother...you might see design elements show up acrossed many makers at the same time in a time period. that is another factor to consider.

Hello, it's Bret, Let me see if I can cross post you on the private side.
I sent you a reply to the email re; Fred and Pics. I'll see if I can get some to help with the posting...

Hi, Naomi. I'm one of the members who specialize in sewing patterns, and Bret contacted me yesterday about your search. I looked through part of my collection with no luck, but I still have a few more boxes to look through. I'll see what I can come up with!

Oh, and to answer your question, I'm not aware of any resources to do the kind of research you need. The only suggestion I have is to do a lot of internet surfing! Here are some websites to get you started:

<A HREF="http://www.vintagecat.com" target=blank>Vintage Cat</A> - I've dealt with this dealer, and Charlotte has always been very helpful and nice

<A HREF="http://www.evadress.com" target=blank>EvaDress.com</A>
<A HREF="http://www.vintagemartini.com" target=blank>VintageMartini.com</A>
<A HREF="http://www.thebluegardenia.com" target=blank>The Blue Gardenia</A>

Laura

Okay, it's not a pattern and it's commercial, not homemade, but I saw <A HREF="http://www.vintagemartini.com/clothing/1940s/pages/5791.html" target=blank>this</A> and thought of your suit.

Is it similar?

Laura

Thanks Laura,

The jacket is far flashier than either the Adrian Suit or the not-Adrian suit. Both are wool with assymetrical applied trim. The Adrian skirt has 4 small pleats at the very bottom, one on each side and one center front and center back - whereas the other suit skirt has 4 gores.

I am checking to see about posting images.

Thanks to everyone on the board!

If you look at this thread, then instead of using the quick reply box, hit reply under the previous post. It will give to a place to either attach a photo, or under where you can italicize, etc, there is a button which allows you to input the url where your photo is located.

Laura,

I just finished looking through the vintage pattern websites you suggested... they're a wonderful resource.. Again, many thanks,

Naomi

I'm glad you checked back in, Naomi. It reminded me that I still need to look through the rest of my patterns!

I was going to look for a particular pattern for myself, so I'll pull out the boxes tonight and see what I come up with. :)

This is really illustrating the point that I need to scan my entire collection into a database so I know what I have!!!

Laura

Naomi,

I checked my patterns, and unfortunately I can't come up with anything similar from the correct time period.

I'll keep you in mind when I'm looking at patterns (mine or browsing to buy), and I'll let you know if I come across anything.

Laura

I don't know if Naomi has checked in lately...so i will try to keep this bumped up. She doesn't have an email address in her profile, so i have no way of letting her know there is follow up info.
