advice on dating and repair work needed..

had another load of clothes today....and i was soooooo excited.. until i started picking the items out of the black bags.....
the lady must have loved re- vamping and making things....

and i have a few dresses in various states from carnage to slightly tampered with.....

this is one of the dresses.. no label... metal zip on the side just under the arm...now i dont know whether it was hand made , and not finished..... or tampered with ( which i think is more likely..)..

i am going to finish the collar area.. so i have taken a photo of roughly what i will be doing....
a few questions.. what date do you think it is...? and do you think as it has been altered it will lower the price..?

I cant tell what the dress from the picts... If it has been altered and is wearable and looks good and of the era it should not hurt the price for a dress with no label....Just state what has been done to dress. Sound like the dress was made in the 40's and someone added lace later.

The dress is 40s, and it is hard indeed to tell what has been done. The neckline definitely has some work done.

Yes, a pristine dress from the 40s is of the greatest value, and a dress without alterations in very good shape is fine. It would be best to at least be able to state what had been done to this dress. It is still cute and shows potential...I wish I could help you more!

thanks peeps.....i have my work cut out with this lot.....i have about 3 dresses....and a few coats.. that have been taken apart at the seams......

so i think the lady was trying to make them smaller ...also some of the coats have their lining missing.. which has been used to line wool skirts.....

sorry about the quality of the photos.... but hopefully going to get a new camera ..as my camera is now throwing out dodgy quality photos...lol......i got a lot more things to pick up on firday.. so i am hoping that they are not as bad as this lot.....lol.....
