Advice On Whether To Follow Through On An Auction

Hi All,
I don't know about you, but I've had more people email me asking me to rush things out than I ever have before. I had an auction end last night. The winning bidder had contacted me a couple of days ago and asked if she won the dress if I could ship the dress out the next day as she needed it for a party on wednesday. I emailed her back and let her know that it would be no problem but that her Paypal account would need to have a confirmed address because she has 0 feedback. She emailed me back and said no problem. She won the auction and paid last night. Big surprise, she has an unconfirmed address. I wouldn't mind so much if it was a $10 dress but it sold for $49. She has an unconfirmed address, 0 feedback and has asked me to rush it out. I'm all about making my customers happy but I have to protect myself, too. What would you do??? I have mailed out things to uncomfirmed addresses before, but I am always able to look at feedback to verify their good standing.
Help please!!
Carrie

I have had a few like that lately and I am always wary but end up sending to unconfirmed addresses anyway. Just make sure you get delivery confirmation and to be even safer pay the extra for insurance so incase she says she didn't receive it the P.O can prove her wrong. ~Tori

Hi Tori,
I probably will end up sending it. Like I said, the uncomfirmed address in itself isn't so bad. Couple it with the 0 feedback and it changes things considerably. I'm a little gunshy because I had a chargeback on my Paypal account last month for a transaction back in May. Paypal took $55 out of my account because the guy says he did not authorize the purchase. I think his daughter bought a prom dress using his Paypal account. I have sent all of the documentation showing that I followed the law on every detail and they are "disputing on my behalf". I have a feeling I can kiss that money goodbye! It's sad, because I did everything right on my end but I could still lose. I'll probably send this dress and maybe do signature confirmation as well, if it's not too expensive.
Thanks for your help!
Carrie

You know what - i bet this is for a Halloween party.

You will get rush requests for Halloween and Christmas/new years parties.

Also, when you sign up for paypal, it does take a few days to get confirmed if she just signs up and also if you don't have a paypal account but use it for charging a credit card (they have that feature "you don't have to have an account to use your credit card"

Something is very wrong here. Without sellers, there would be no ebay - true you need both sellers and buyers, but there is no due process, no notification to sellers. Carte blanche for pulling auctions and making chargebacks and the seller only has recourse after the fact!

In the corporate world it is incumbent upon the buyer to have some sort of proof, not just their word. I speak from experience, because I was double charged on one of my credit cards and the credit card company checked with the company who did the double billing and that company denied they owed me anything and I was left on my own - it took me several registered letters and a year to get the credit.

There's no middle ground.

I think living in Canada and having an unconfirmed address,
the "unconfirmed address" is a non issue for me. I do realize that Paypal has made things difficult with
sellers and the confirmed/unconfirmed address issue. Knock on wood, in my years of selling I have never had a problem.

If it was me, obviously given what I've said above, I would
send it - but you have to do what is comfortable for you.

(big help huh?) :)

Sue
