Age/Era & Color Question Eisenberg Red Earrings

Hello again!

These orange/red rhinestone drop earrings are marked with a capital "E" which I believe is Eisenberg.

Any idea on year/era?

Also, the color is unusual... it's more of an orange-red than a true red. Any input on words to describe it?

Would you call these "drop" earrings?

Again, these really need cleaning, but don't want to do any damage.

Thanks a million...

Susan

This is a good site to research costume jewelry marks at.

According to RCJ, the block "E" was used by Eisenberg from '42-45, but I'd expect to see a screwback for an earring from that period...

As far as cleaning, a great product is Jewelry Joose . Sometimes, to clean up rhinestones, I dip a q-tip in alcohol and carefully swab just the flat tops of the stones to polish them up (alcohol dries quickly, but you still don't want to get moisture behind the stones, where it can cause foil damage).

Another lovely score Susan!

They are technically pendant earrings, although the more popular keyword is 'drop' earrings. They do have more of a 'tomato red' coloring don't they? And that's part of what's throwing me.

Don't wanna scare ya, since I really can't be sure, but that stone coloring, gold plating, and simplified prong setting is throwing me (since so many of the "E" pieces were faked). The E mark is both older and newer (used in the 40's and then again in the 70's).

Hopefully more eyes can shed light on your earrings.

It's my understanding that sometimes Eisenberg marked their pieces with just an "E" if that is all that would fit. From 1958-1970 Eisenberg was NOT marked. I agree with Carries recomendation of Jewelry Joose.

I can't tell what the finding looks like. I think the earrings are probably early '70's but would like to see a clearer photo of the finding.
