Age of 'ocean' cotton swimsuit

Hi! You all are always so helpful. I am clueless on this swimsuit (diving, competition?). It is ribbed and has bust darts. I don't know why the tag came out upside down. It reads :
"ocean NEW YORK RN19331 100% COTTON"
Does anyone know the age of this suit? Thank you so much!

I don't know about the suit, but there is a calculation for getting an approximate date of issue for an RN number. Yours comes out as 1961. It's only an approximate date, it might be slightly earlier or later.

This doesn't mean it was made that year, it means thats the date the company was issued the RN number. So your garment could be later than 1961, (it could even be decades later), but is unlikely to be much earlier.

In fact RN numbers only started in 1959, so it can't be earlier than that anyway.

Hope that helps narrow it down. Hopefully someone else can weigh in on the suit style.

Thank you so much Ruth, Nicole and Lynne! You guys are awesome! I should have realized it's post 1959 with an RN#.
Since this is cotton, could this be something other than swimwear or competition? The tag looks 60s to me, however, could it be as late as the 80s? I'm really confused again! Maybe I'm overthinking this?

Cotton was still a common material for swimsuits in the 1960s and this being a plain and more traditional style for the period would fit with it being a set school uniform piece in a boarding school and the details sewn onto it certainly appear to be a name, class, possibly swimmer's number for competitions etc.

I love it. I can't tell how it would fit on but it looks similar to a wrestling uniform.
