My mom like so many others who were born in the 1940's,and 50's got out of high school and promptly became ...(pause for a sense of suspense)..A stewardess, of course! Being that she was a high flying world traveler she had the opportunity to buy some REALLY COOL stuff from during the most influential period in time. She has lost/ given/ sold a good portion of her treasures that she still actually has hung onto are epic!!!! Well just recently we were going through one of her old steamer trunks when she handed this most original piece of clothing. and I am hoping that some one knows something about it.
The only thing she told me about it is that she bought it off the back of a runway model in Paris France in the early 1960s.....(intrigued? I have been since she gave it to me, but with so few clues as to what it really is, I have been left with little more than a cliffhanger)

No Labels, no tags, but obvious quality and now nearly 60 years old and still in fabulous condition.
Would love to hear what you think of it- whether pertaining to my inquiry or just a simple
notation of oppinion

When was your mother a stewardess because I think she is dating this too early - it looks very late 60s to me - maybe even 1970/71ish. This has a lot of home-grown hippy styling in it, and this kind of hippy look is very American, although the French copied ideas from it - even couturiers like Yves St. Laurent, although this doesn't look like him. I can see that it is old by the shape of the sleeves and skirt, but what a shame it doesn't have a label - I wonder if it might be from one of the boutique designers who were starting up at the time like Sonia Rykiel.

I'd also say late 60s/early 70s -- totally hippie -- and would have been worn by my YMCA Summer Day Camp Arts & Crafts teacher, Janine, with great style. LOVE IT!!

I would just go and ask her but it seem the greater the gap in time from in incident in question the more "imagination" she'll use in her reply. So this Is what I know: and she'd kill me if she knew i disclosed this but figuring she was born in 1948. I believe she graduated High school in 1964 -65 and I know she flew for "Pan Am" and for a period was flying troops in and out of Vietnam. I believe she worked as a stewardress for just under 10 years. and I also know my brother was born in 1972, and his father was a pilot she worked with. I dont think she went back to the airline after be was born. so I can reasonably conclude that she was working for the airline from 1965 to 1972 for sure. Maybe that helps
I Think it is just the cutest! I would consider it to be more "mod" than hippie though....Very young and hip, I see it being worn with some knee high patent leather boots, either with or black, and a matching 2 1/2" headband and maybe even a matching belt (or maybe no belt) Thats the way I imagine it to be worn.
Yes Not a label anywhere.....It kills me. Because I know its from some great designer who hadnt yet mad a name for themselves, just because of the way it feels in the hand....I just has that really wonderful high quality Tactile feel.

I am going to give myself away here now, but I graduated from High School in 1969 and remember the styles of Hippie and Mod styles well. At that time "Granny" squares(that's what we called them at the time)....this looks like that period of the 1960's to me and the short length of the dress is 60's, for sure. Somehow, this doesn't look "runway" and Paris to me, but it would be interesting to see how the inside of the dress looks. These types of fashions always bring back sweet memories for me.....when I had extremely long and straight hair!!! Nice dress.
