Allen Bernard?...and other questions about selling vintage

Hi All,
I am brand new to your forum..though I have lurked on and off for awhile. I am mainly a seller of contemporary clothing on Ebay but my heart is with vintage items. I find myself hoarding pieces that are (or appear) vintage on my buying trips but in all honesty...I know so little about how to sell vintage but am trying to learn. (we all gotta start somewhere, right?) I am in the process of setting up my website and will have a vintage category on that site. It all seems so complex and I can only dream of having the kind of knowledge that you all on this board have. Here are my questions:

1)I don't see anything in the label resource for Allen Bernard and was wondering if anyone has any info on this label ...In the research I have done..it seems to be a label from the 80's ....nice beaded suits with a very feminine style is what I find on this label

2)Do you all MIND if items are posted here for newbies to gain some insight about the designer and labels. Everyone seems helpful here but wanted to make certain that this is not frowned upon / newbies posting photos to get help w/dating items

3)How on earth do you PART with your vintage pieces? I get so possessive with mine and have a difficult time letting it go...and I don't even have the high dollar stuff that many of you have. ..Still, I know it is better served to sell to someone who will love it than to have it sitting around

Thanks so much for any responses. ...Like I said.. I am a fairly new collector/seller but some of my items include black label and other Gunne Sax, Dior nightgown/robe & Miss Dior nightgow set, Allen Bernard, Andre Barreau, older Lanz dresses, older Lillie Rubin labels, vintage Oleg Cassini beaded jacket, Montaldos & Tailored Woman coats, Castleberry w/Gumps label, and many evening type dresses with union labels but no designer labels. .....Nothing too high end really but still I need to know how best to sell my items and need to get educated.

Like I said..my website will have a button for buying my vintage items..but mainly I will sell contemporary clothing so I don't think I will qualify for membership here.. ..Still, I need to learn all I can about vintage and selling it. Any of your recommendations would be appreciated on how best to learn and grow.

THANKS SO MUCH!

Hello!

You're welcome to post pictures about anything you have question about - we all had to learn somewhere! Becoming a vintage clothing seller is a long road - you'll learn something new everyday.

And trust me - very many of us KEEP far more than we SELL! LOL!

Thank you for the info Lynne & Kristine! ....Oh..it's so good to hear that many of you have a difficult time letting go of your pieces!...I thought something must be wrong with me...the whole sweaty palms and pounding heart thing.. :) I think it has more to do with the HISTORY of the pieces. I love learning about the designers and the eras and ladies who would have worn these pieces of history. Facinating!

..And I know you are right...it is a long road to becoming a vintage QUEEN..as many of you are.. but I think if you have the love for it...something just drives you on to learn more and more. .....For me..it all started when my husband's grandmother gave me a gorgeous dress suit that she wore back in the 40's... I can't part with that...too personal.. ..then my husband became an auctioneer and thru our auctions and dealings..I have just become addicted. ...Anyway...thanks so much and I will be posting some photos for help/advice as soon as I can get it photographed. ....Have a great day!

Hi Ginger! You'll find the most lovely people here, and VERY helpful too!!

Sounds like you have the beginnings of a lovely collection already. And as far as anyone I've ever talked with, we ALL get attached to certain pieces, making them very hard to part with, although it does help if the piece is going to someone you know'll treasure it. If I can't wear it/use it personally, I USUALLY try to let go of it, cuz it is addicting and there's only so much space & I'm forever finding "new" vintage I must have!!LOL:lol:

So welcome!!
