Hello everyone,

SO I know the rule "croc dots" etc. , but I am still never sure. What do you think about this handbag, Alligator or Crocodile. Thank you in advance!

Maryalice, What's that "skin" link you posted over a year ago? It has some good photos that could help msricenbeans(dang that's a cute name) I'll try to find a ally & croc purse to shoot...

Linn, That is Priceless! Looks more 30's to me cause of the Deco effect ,but that carried over well into the 40's with jewelry & purses. What do I know!, Except YuM- Yum-O-La!! Croc- Right Kids?

Wow, Linn, that purse is gorgeous!!! It's alligator. The difference is not in the shape of the scales, but in the texture. Croc skin scales have a raised bump, or at least a dot. The photos above are difficult to distinguish on my monitor.
Here's a site that carries croc/gator vintage purses. They know their stuff, and are a good visual reference. Definite eye candy!

Thanks, Eileen -

That is a great site!!!

I was confusing the shape of the scales with the texture. I purchased a croc bag reecently which I just got out to examine. It's not bumby, but I can see the little dot which according to the crocdocshop site is a hair follicle. They say it is very difficult to tell the difference! (Under FAQ's).

Thanks again!

Linn

Thank you!

I love it! I bought it in San Francisco about 4 years ago. I do find some vintage pieces in Hawaii (like the hats I posted a few weeks ago) and lots of jewelry, but not very much clothing, and so far no skin bags. I did get a wonderful '30's Whiting and Davis aluminum and celluloid bag here. I am very careful to do a sniff test on any bag I spot anywhere - LOL.

There's a big collectible show in Honolulu this weekend that usually attracts Mainland dealers, so we'll see what I find!
