ALMONDS??

Okay,
I am out of almonds.
I brought back 10 pounds from California after Christmas and they are GONE!
Mz. Foxy is not a happy camper right now.
Around here you can only buy bulk almonds in the shell during the holidays.
Are they still selling them where you live?

Foxy says 'No applaus-just send almonds."

Help!

Hmmm.... what about buying directly from a farmer? I will check around, Marie. There are a lot of peanut farmers out here that have so many they are giving them away. You can get a huge amount for pennies. But i will have to check about almonds. Are there any other types of nuts that Foxy likes? What about acorns?

Oh, yes. She does like acorns. They are hard to find this time of year.
She might like buckeyes but she has never had them. I know the northern squirrels like buckeyes.

I just remembered that there are Pecan farms, I don't think almonds. I will check the local general store, but i think they advertise that you can order directly from farms.

I could probably scare up some acorns to send Foxy a little care package. It is 5 months of fall here versus having a clear break in seasons...we have really no winter. The acorns and pine cones and leaves fall every single day, and our squirrels are almost morbidly obese and have too many acorns than they could possibly eat in their lifetime if they lived 40 years each. They will honestly go rotten if i don't get them right away because they can't eat them all. Some days you think you hear that is hailing and it really is an acorn shower. They are from the big live oak trees, and some laurel oaks.

Oh, she will love you forever. Let me know if you can scare some up and how much it will cost to ship acorns.

Also if you find any almonds. I know they are grown in CA but not sure about FL.

Did I miss something? You have your own personal backyard squirrel? She doesn't love almonds in the shell???

At my dad's, we had this great squirrel, Bridgit I called her, who was black and VERY friendly. She would come to the back door, then sit at your feet outside and crunch away on what ever you gave her. She loved any nuts in the shell, but most of them are now in the lawn. Someday there will be brazil nut, pecan, walnut, almond, and hazelnut trees in the yard! So the shelled nuts were better if you didn't want to feel like you were wasting money.

Peanuts in the shell were OK, too. The local park squirrels here love nuts in the shell. And they don't bury them!

Poor Bridgit showed up one day last winter with 1/2 her tail missing. Then a couple months later, when I saw her on my next visit, the hair at the end of her 1/2 tail gew into a grey puff.

BUT, the really, really sad thing is, there have been no Bridgit sightings since last October.

Well there is an almond board of California and they list all their growers.

You may be able to get a source of supply direct - also a letter to them may make them laugh and they might suggest an outlet.

nuts

I have a big bag of pecans still in their shell. They are several years old. Do you think they would still be good?

probably not - I actually used to do the pr for the US Pecan Bureau and if these nuts are pretty old they could well be rancid by now.

Nuts keep better and longer when frozen so if you want to extend their life that's the way to do it.

She knows Ceil Chapman, pr, rice....and now nuts.

Anne, I am just waiting for you to say that you have also written a manual on motorcycle repair. Everytime i turn around, there is another specialty we find out about :) How ever can I keep up? LOL

ha ha - no I am useless with motor cyles and certainly do not work for Michael Jackson :)

When you work in pr you do have to get to know something in order to promote it so I have a strange knowledge base gained over the years, which every now and then I get to tap in to.

..which comes in handy if you audition for a trivia game show. But i find the questions so unchallenging on them these days that one would probably fall asleep. a guy didn't know that a femur was a bone in the human body, while a sparkplug went to a car. i kid you not. i turned it off!
