Alpaca Labels? Time periods?

I found a coat made of Alpaca it states on the label. I looked in the fabric resource. The coat appears from the 1960s or possibly later. Looks fabulous and is so warm.
My ?'s are:
1. I would think clothing has been made from this animal forever but is there a time period of popularity especially.
2. How do you clean it if you need to?
3. Are certain labels or companies choice in production?

I recently learned that there was a vogue for alpaca coats and jackets in the late 1950s, only it was referred to not as alpaca but as "Peruvian Llama"

Alpaca is a wool--you can simply dry clean it! (I've done so with several garments).
