Altering fur? Help

Hello everyone. I recently got a monkey coat that has dry damage to the upper back. The rest of the coat appears to be in good condition (skins are soft) I'd like to have this altered to either a cropped jacket or a wrap.

I looked online and it seems most places that do this are in the midwest or on the east coast, I'm in so CA. Does anyone know of a place that does this? Has anyone tried to alter a fur themselves? I want to just go for it but I'm so nervous.

My furrier left the biz, here in NM, and when they did, they told me that you either had to send things for alterations, cleaning or professional fur storage even to Denver or El Paso.

Hi there,

In this situation I would recommend having a furrier remove the lining to see the extent of the damage, whether it could be restyled, and have them do it.
Altering a fur garment takes tools and a machine that only furriers, or those who repair or design furs have.

I would recommend googling furriers in the location where you live. If there are none close to you then you can check on reputable furrier sites to see who offers mail in service.

Good luck.
