Am I in the right forum? - laundry question

I was unsure where to post this...

what do y'all use to get rid of biological odors in vintage garments?

I have these adorable cotton plisse pjs. They're embroidered w/ tone on tone flowers (ecru), and the feel like air.

Unfortunately, they do not smell like air... It isn't exactly b.o. - it's that "I've been worn for months at a time 24/7 smell". Kinda like hamburger..? ewww

I've laundered them at least 2 times with febreeze in the washer, and another time w/ baking soda. It is 106+ here now, though. Wasn't there a tip about soaking stanky garments in something & letting them dry in the sun. That'd take about 5 minutes here!

Many Thanks in advance!

I'm a big fan of fresh air - hanging them somewhere there is a good breeze can often do wonders. That and soaking but it sounds like you've already done well in the actual cleaning department.

Gabriela has a sippy cup (fabric) sleeve that absorbs milk, juice, etc that she spills when she's drinking. The only way I was able to get rid of the smell was by soaking the sleeve in a vinegar/water solution overnight, then washing as normal.

You might give it a try, as Sandra suggested. Airing things out has never worked for me, though a lot of people have good results from it.

Leisa, you might want to try a white vinegar with some sudsy ammonia and water soak. Sounds like this is a stubborn odor, and I'm not sure vinegar alone would do it! Ammonia can work wonders with odors and stains. (I'd use the lemon-scented ammonia, though, so it won't stink you out!)

I've had very good luck with using vodka. The cheap-o kind is fine. Put it in a spray bottle undiluted and spray onto the areas. It may take a couple days of applying it, but it usually works.

Thanks {everyone}!

I forgot about the white vinegar trick. I know it'll kill cat mistake odors, so it should work on these pj's.
And I got a good giggle out of ladieswholunch: "I would air in the shade, not the sun, which might fade items."
I have No Shade in about a block radius. I wish I did. (106f in the shade today.)

Oh, how I wish the odor was only under the arms. But both pieces are stank-eeeeeee overall.

Thanks again.

sprinkle with bicarb, or put bicarb on a tissue paper layer....but l'm for the fresh air and good breeze..to clear the fabric
