Okay, I am sure by now the UK delayed airing of American Idol has occurred.

I just want to know...what the HECK was that all about on the results show?

For those who watched, you will know what I am talking about!!!

I was definately expecting Chris to be in the finals; so it was a shock. But he has a BIG career ahead of him. Saw him on Leno last night and heard that he had been offered to front some big name band (oh my memory...) during the taping of Idol. I'm looking forward to his first album - oops, CD.

I've been rooting for Elliot - it's maternal - my daughter is a singer and when she sings I'm nervous for her and I kinda forget to breath until the set is over. I do the same thing with Elliot when he sings. Weird!

The band is Fuel and he will be there lead singer.....

At first I was shocked, but then I started thinking that this route is better for him b/c now he can sing and produce the kind of songs he wants with the group. Not like if he won american idol and then was limited to what he could sing on the first CD.

I am happy it worked this way. Now can't wait to see who wins....

I really don't like Elliot.
The main reason is because he is ignorant.

When they have the different celebrity guests - he always says "i don't know who they are." Well, it mighta worked for Kellie Pickler's "i came from the middle of nowhere persona" but just from a personal advancement angle or a "love of music" angle, you think that if he didn't know who the person was, he would educate himself to not appear so uneducated. I mean, after all he supposedly was on air talent for college radio or something or other. He said that he didn't know who Barry Manilow was, and was unfamilar with Stevie Wonder's music! Or if you don't like their music, you at least say "i have a new appreciation" versus "i do not care for them" if you are appearing on a show with them. Sometimes it works best to keep your mouth shut. Not being fake, but sometimes its about saying less. he just comes off as a jerk to me on that angle.

I am not a giant Barry Manilow fan, but even if you don't know all the zillions of commercials he wrote jingles for, or the songs he wrote for others, how can one not have ever heard Copa Cabana? Or even more so...to have been on the radio and not be familar with Stevie Wonder?

I can see not knowing who Tommy Matola is by name...but in context perhaps....but....STEVIE WONDER??!?!?

I mean, this is the industry they want to be in and winning or being a runner up may get them a contract, but staying in that contract and not being a one hit or a no hit wonder and having longevity...you have to start making friends.

I recall him not being familiear with BM's music, but I recall him knowing Stevie Wonder's. In the early stages he did an extremely technically difficult Stevie Wonder tune (the most difficult in the show to date) and, from what I remember, Stevie is one of his idols. OR my memory is REALLY going!

Certainly, his BM comment was not sugar coated and I actually found that kinda refreshing. And I think his insecurity makes him awkward talking in front of the camera.

Chris, I logged on to the AI site and lo and behold I found the info - the song was “If You Really Love Me” from one of Stevie's earlier albums (71, I think) and he sang it when vying for one of the top 12 spots on Feb. 22.

AI will take me about 20 minutes to watch from here on out...I always fast forward through Elliot's numbers (talented, but not my type of music) and I zip past a lot of the filler material. I can't even listen to Randy any more, there's only so much "yo dog" "check this out" and "for you for me" I can take.
I'll be lighting up Taylor's line. I really liked Chris, but couldn't figure out how he would sing one of their canned pop songs they make the winners sing.

You are right. Carrie Underwood worked out okay because I guess her album is more in the country niche. My DH loved Bo Bice during last year's competition but listened to his CD at the store and he said it really didn't sound like he expected...it was more pop/american idol-y and he is waiting for his second cd that he might get to do more what he wants to do on it.

I still think Katherine's a much more talented singer technically than Taylor is and might be more of someone who can carry off the typical stuff they make the winner sing. But it will be a really interesting and tight show if she and Taylor are in the finals.

The thing about Elliot, while I don't really care for him he has not often been "the worst" every week. It's like how Tina won on survivor...most of the time, she was never the very best or the very worst there was. I didn't watch that season but it seemed like that's what happened.

He just might slip under the radar if people are split over Taylor and Katherine.

They may have to sing a lousy pop tune on the group AI album, but the type of CD and songs are chosen by the winner or winners. The problem is the artists have a lot of different people influencing them and some of them, like Bo Bice (my personal fav last year) end up listening to the wrong people and making the wrong choice.

Certainly, Chris would have had no problem deciding what type of CD to do.
