an off-topic find...

I'm know this isn't the really right site for this item, but as we all love vintage things, perhaps that extends beyond clothes for many, as it does for me.

A recent thrift-shop rummage brought this to light, and I couldn't resist. To me the shape is saying fifties, but the colour saying seventies, but what do I know. I believe it's called a snack plate. Whaddya think? Do you like it or hate it!? I really love the shape, but can't imagine I will ever use it. If anyone can shed light onto its era, then many thanks.

Ruth, I LOVE this! Are there any markings on the bottom, and if so, what do they say? It looks 70s doing 50s to me, due to the orange color. What size is it? I'm not sure I'd call it a snack plate unless it's small; if larger, it could be a serving plate for condiments or relishes.

We have a vintage early 70's house and I've been collecting both 50s & 70s pieces of kitchenware/dinnerware, so I've seen a lot of different maker's marks. If you can post a shot of the mark, if any, on the back, maybe I or someone else here can help.

great color, great shape!! my first thought was relish plate, too...it'd be really pretty with a colorful assortment of olives... and your guests could throw the pits in those tiny corners...

I had a set of 12 of those, same color, same shape!

I sold them on ebay a few years ago.

They were 70's and came with a matching fondue pot.

I always liked them and thought they were pretty funky.

Ah thanks guys! that's all good to hear. It's big, like a dinner plate about 10 inches across. I can't believe you had 12! were they all this size?

Here's is the mark on the back, it's the name of a town (Salins) in France, plus the crest thing, which shows a monk.

Thanks Marty, that's really helpful. I'll do that. I did search ebay UK and didn't find any, so I'll search further afield.

I almost didn't post this, even in the 'off topic' section, coz I thought you might all think, "what's she telling us about a plate for?". So it's been lovely to get your responses!

WOW, :hysterical:

My parents got a set of these plates and a fondue as a wedding present. (in 1972) We still use it every year for the holidays.

This is bringing back fond(ue) memories...
