And now... Civil War dance

Here are links to two short videos showing our rehearsals prior to performing at this year's "Sunday in the Park" Victorian street festival at Atlanta's Historic Oakland Cemetery.

I'm in the striped olive-green and red dress.

My wonderful husband (known as "Mr. BDV" to my Facebook Page Likers) agreed to join us in the Stately Vintage Dancers troupe, so I bought him a reasonable facsimile of a period-correct cutaway coat and trousers. He would now like a top hat to complete the ensemble, so if any of my colleagues has one, please contact me off the forum.

Considering he'd never even seen "The Windmill" dance prior to this rehearsal, and neither of us had performed it before, I'd say we did fine (no falling down, no going in the wrong direction!). The formation marching at the beginning is tricky!

Enjoy and thanks for watching.

Did you have fun or was it work?

FUN!! It's actually volunteer work, Rita. Because I don't do enough of that already, LOL... : )

We represent Stately Oaks Plantation, in Jonesboro, Georgia (yes, that IS where Scarlett O'Hara lived). Though if I ever were to get a paid gig of this sort, I'd certainly take it.

Where did you get that wonderful dress (did Kat make it?)
And did the partner for the lady-in-black make it to the final dance?

I bought the dress very gently used on eBay. It's well made by some outfit in Gettysburg, where they take their reenactment seriously. The construction is lovely, although some of the trims use period-incorrect materials, which bugs me (why not use real cotton/wool/linen, etc?).
The headpiece is handmade by a sutler (again, not ideal materials, but nicely made)
Here's what's underneath -- antique drawers, modern hose (aka kneesocks) modern shoes, repro chemise and corset (custom, but somehow too big, sigh)

Yes, Ashleigh's partner, her dad (rather dashing guy, actually), was there all along. He sat out part of the rehearsal as he suffers from angina and didn't want to push his luck. Or rather, we made him sit out so he wouldn't keel over midway through the actual performance, which was much livelier.
