Another 30\'s (I think) dress and jacket.. and a few questions

I think this is thirties - (please excuse these photos as this is not ready yet and these won't be used) - mint green, full length dress with slim body and it gets very full after the knees, snaps up the front top and snaps in the center side. Jacket matches and buttons up the front.

My questions are: when does this date to? Also, the jacket is perfect but the dress is not. It has some "slits" - some that are hidden BUT would you repair prior to selling or sell as is? And if you repaired would you use those adhesive patches on the slits and then some stitching over the patches? The dress is very wearable other than the slits - which look like they happened when someone tried the dress on.

Looks 30s to me....is it silk, and that sort of crisp "weighted" type? Those slits often indicate rot or weakening, I've seen it most often on the back where someone would have perspired leaning back in a chair......I've always found that the fabric will continue to tear.....

It is a taffeta sort of material - and yes it is crisp but I'm not sure that it is silk but it did wash up well. The tears are at the neckline - someone must have been too big and put it on anyway - just slit the front in back of the buttons. Also there are two at the sides - very small - but those appear to be where the dress had stitching removed. I pulled and tugged on the rest of the dress and everything is good and not shot. The jacket is perfect though.

If I owned a B&M I think I would have a darn hard time allowing people to try things on because of what someone obviously did to the dress.

You know it.
I don't put my older, more fragile things in the shop anymore. I take them to shows and even then they can get "shop worn". I don't relpenish my site as much as I would like but thats the safest place to put delicate things.

I get pretty tired of customers who treat a vintage shop like "dress up in grandmas attic".

Drat! I am off topic again. Yes, 1930s.:embaressed:
