I am aware that this is not THE Dior. Well, it is, its Christian Dior so it is but it is not the collectible Dior.

This is not in the label resource so as soon as we get a date, I will post it on the thread for Lizzie (and will resize it as it is just a little HUGE) I read the label resource and saw the different designer's periods and was wondering which of the later ones it probably fell into.

This coat was given to me and like the red coat, I am refurbishing/restoring. The buttons are not original and I intend to replace them with something more apropriate. I am assuming the original buttons would have been black velvet colored.

What is striking to me about this coat is the super huge wide velvet collar. And even if not the "good" Dior, it really is a beautiful coat - well made, soft, all that.

Excuse the poor photos - these are not "good" ones - those will come when i get the buttons corrected.

I am guessing maybe perhaps 80s/90s cusp, but the big collar would say earlier to me. The pockets are satin lined patch pockets like my 70s jackets, which are not showing in the photo but are on the outside vs the slash style, and the fact that the top part of the collar is velvet reminds me of an 80s pendleton I have with an equestrian lean to it. The color was extremely difficult to photograph. In the beginning of the week, I will take it in the sunlight. It is a darker blue than the picture indicates. I didn't clip the coat on the manni, it is slightly big on her but not bad and it wants to taper in a hair.

So any date input?

Chris

from the label resource:

1958 –1960 – Yves Saint Laurent
1960 –1989 – Marc Bohan
1989 –1996 – Gianfranco Ferre’
1996 – present – John Galliano.

so maybe during the Bohan period. I just was not sure if it were 80s or 90s, but I bet you are correct.

I am going to shrink it and add it to the label resource. The last Dior label that is there is 1973. It might not be "important" Dior, but still worthwhile to have for people to compare it with i think.

I will try and get some black velvet covered buttons as I am assuming that is what was original I think.
