Hi everyone! I'm a long time lurker, first time poster. I asked a similar question on the Etsy Techniques and Materials forum, but I thought I might ask y'all as well.
I usually avoid fur garments, but an elderly relative of mine sent me a beautiful fur cape of hers from the 1950s. (It was such a sweet gift, particularly as it was accompanied by a note telling me how proud she was of me!)
Unfortunately, neither of us are sure what kind of fur was used for the cape. (She has forgotten over the years, and I know absolutely nothing about fur.) I took a look at the VFG fur resource page, but I'm still not sure.
I'm almost positive it's not mink -- it feels...coarser, I guess. Also, the individual hairs seem to be longer than those on mink garments I've seen, and the color doesn't look right.
On Etsy, people suggested that it might be either fox or sable. Any thoughts?
