Another game of 1980s vs. 40s - suit jacket

I assume most will say this is 80s but I'm wondering if it might be older due to:

• longer length - this hits below the hip on me, and I have a relatively long torso
• fitted shape - it nips in at the waist and flares out at the hem, due to the beautiful darts you can see in the shot of the back. The fit might not be seen well in the photos due to how close up they are.
• The sort of swirly applied trim - I know there's a word for it I can't think of.
• Mostly unfinished, some pinked inner seams, however there is one line of overlocking along the bottom hem
• Fading at top of collar

In the "evidence for the 80s" camp, according to my limited knowledge, the shoulder pads appear to be foam. I suppose they could be replacement, but I don't see hard evidence of that.

The buttons are self-covered metal with plastic shanks, which also (to my eye) look maybe more modern. The lining seems to probably be acetate? Burn test of the outer fabric indicates wool.

Any thoughts welcome. Regardless of age it's a really beautiful piece with a nice fit which doesn't come across in my poor photos.

Longer fitted jackets were big in the early to mid 90s as I recall. The shoulder pads and buttons are definitely not of the 40s as you pointed out, and acetate lining was possible for the 40s. It's a nice quality jacket, the likes of which were available in, say, Nordstrom.

I would call this 80s Boss Business. The squared shape of the upper lapel, the interior lining, the fabric sheen, shape of the pockets, even the elongated darts scream 80s to me. Plus, throw on a micro-mini and you are a Robert Palmer girl!
