Another little black dress

Here is another little black dress I hope you can help me date.

It it a larger size than my dress form and is actually a very fitted dress (wiggle dress)??. The back neckline is lower with a large bow and wide ties that fall to the hemline.

I don't know what type of wire and beads were used to create the neckline but they're pretty wonderful.

There is no designer label, just an orange tag size 18.

Again thank you. I love this site as a resource!!!!

Thanks Brenda for your feedback. I thought the "shelf bust" and sleeve zippers would have placed it in the 50's. Always good things to learn at this site!!!!

I suppose the other dress could be late 50s, but I wouldn't call that a shelf bust. Also I have seen zipper sleeves on 60s dresses.

A shelf bust is just like what it sounds like...appears the bust is sitting on a shelf. Usually these are more low cut, exposing a lot more skin than the dress you posted.

Hi Maggie

I looked up Watteau panel - a new term for me!!! (thank you). There are two panels attached to the back neckline of the dress (either side of the zipper. with the bow riding on top of the two panels, so I guess a Watteau panel can be comprised of two pieces and not just a single panel?
