another theater dress

Hi all,

Here's a lovely little rayon dress from my theater haul.
- Definitely rayon.
- Quite sheer.
- Yes, it looks like there were shoulder pads at some time.
- Side "General" brand metal zip.
- The front, asymmetrical swag piece goes hip-to-hip (see photo with it lifted to understand).
- measurements:
sh - 16.75, b: 39, bod: 17.5 (long), waist: 34 (only 5" less than bust), h: 44, skirt length: 27.5 from low waist

As usual, I'm looking for confirmation of my suspicions ; ). Thanks for your help. - Liza

I'm thinking perhaps there had been an inner liner of some sort? Maybe the threads at the shoulders were NOT from shoulder pads at all, but were holding on a lining or slip of some sort? Hmm...

I really like that - it's the sort of dress I'd like to wear a lot (were it my size).

1940s. They probably were shoulder pads, and it was worn with a slip underneath. I love sheer florals and wear them with all kinds of petticoats underneath.

Nicole, I could totally see you in this dress!

Thanks for confirmation. It's what I'd imagined, but I am just not comfortable with that 30s/40s time frame (with minor exceptions -- some stuff is just obvious as can be). Maybe because it's never been my favorite so I haven't studied it as much. Anyway, I always like to get an expert opinion!
