Another unlabelled stole from the 1950s? or 60s? and what do you call the tails?

Hi everyone,
Here's another stole / wrap that has tails (?).....I haven't got a photo but the collar is a little unusual as it is tacked down in a few places with strings of thread and it rests on satin fabric. I'll try and get a photo of that later....I'm imagining that is to let it lie flat?
Thanks for any help.
Lauren

Hi Lauren, Your stole looks like mink, it looks like it dates to the 50s, and I don't see any evidence of tails being used. I see what looks like smaller pieces of pelts in the front panels but they still look like they came from the body of pelts rather than from tails. Tails are smaller and create a different pattern when crafted together.
The collar underlined in satin was a way for the furrier to make a less expensive piece and tacking it down made it so the satin did not show and looked the same as other full mink stoles when worn. The straps inside are sling straps to put your arms through. They were common in 40s fur garments however furriers still added them sometimes in the 50s too.

Thanks Caryn, I was wondering what to call the long front pieces and had been thinking 'tails' but that didn't seem right....so it's front panels!
Also, I had a beautiful mink in to our local furrier to check it out and I was asking her about the sort of 'scruffy' look of it when pushed or brushed or poked . She said that they just needed a cleaning....don't know why I've never considered that. I have found that the fur sometimes looks raggedy but the skins are in great shape....
