Are you sure it is real fur? can you feel any seams in the main pieces? or see a piece of the back?

I'm not sure, I know my mother-in-law got it in the 1950's or 1960's. The nap if very thick, but I did find a small hole in the lining of the sleeve, it feels like an animal hide texture.
I can't find any seams looks and feels like one piece if that is possible.

The density and short nap remind me very much of a faux fur cropped jacket I have from this era. If you can get a photo of the base having spread the nap apart we may be able to see what the material is.

Hello again, This is either faux mouton or real mouton. It is very difficult to tell the difference between the two from pictures. You can either do a burn test by snipping or pulling a few furs out from an inconspicuous area and igniting them over a non flammable plate(faux will melt and smell like plastic, real will burn and smell like hair) or you can un-stitch the lining a little bit to see and feel if the hind side is indeed leather or suede skin, then hand stitch back up when you are done.

Thank you for your expertise, we opted for the science experiment and it smelled like singed hair. I think it is
real Mouton.
Thanks again
