Any experts on 20\'s beaded purses???

I picked this up at auction last night for WAAAAY too much money.
What can I say? I was enamoured. I am really smitten by the color combos on this.

Can anyone help me with verifying age (pre-40's is beyond my ken).... anything I should look for... terminology I might need... etc etc.

It looks to be in really excellent condition. I think the interior lining is silk, but it's fairly thick. I cannot verify it, though.
If there are any beads missing, I can't find them.
The beads are extremely dark blue. I'm guessing they are glass? They feel "cold". They are iridescent and so show many colors like an oil slick would. The body of the bag is a darker chartruese knit... although underneath the thicker "swags" of beads, there is no knit... only the interior lining.

Any & all help and suggestions are GREATLY appreciated!:wub:

It certainly is a 20s purse with reppousee (sp?) frame and carnival glass beads. The lining looks original.

Are there any markings on the inside of the frame?

WOW! I think you have a winner. I definitely would have bid high if i was there too.

I would definitely put "looped beaded fringe" in their somewhere.

I would also state that it reminds you of "irridized (sp?) or aurora borealis when in fact it is carnival glass". Folks are so used to thinking about AB (even though that is usually plastic) and are not used to seeing carnival glass that much in this setting that a lot of people might not think to search it...i would put that little thing in there so people searching for the other terms will pick it up too.

Thanks for the help ;)

I can't find any markings anywhere on the frame... and goodness knows I've looked!
Now, see... I would never have known these were carnival glass. Just wouldn't occur to me. And THAT, my friends, is why I came to you :wub:

Now let me ask you... does the exterior look original to you? I have no reason to believe that it ISN'T... except that it's in nearly mint condition. I mean, really, really extraordinary.. and mostly I'd just hate to sell it for a tidy sum and then have someone say "you didn't disclose that this wasn't all original!"... so I'd love any gut feelings y'all have on it.

I will be including thumbnails that link to EXTREMELY large pictures for those who might want to get really up close and personal in examining this.

Sooo... "Vintage 20's Carnival Glass Beaded Purse"
Anything else I should be making sure to put in the title? I still have plenty of room :D

Oh... and I meant to ask....
With tomorrow being "Cyber Monday", I'm hoping to catch all those folks anxious to spend tomorrow.
I'm trying to have friendly BIN prices on everything and would love any suggestions for this one...

Put 1920s as well as 20's. "Deco Era" /"art Deco era" always is a charmer for 20s and 30s bags as well. I would find out how to spell what Hollis was trying to spell too... Some folks put "flapper era" but i dont know if the really serious bag collectors search it at all.

The only question sometimes people have about 20s/30s bags is some were reinterpreted in the 60s flapper revival looking beaded bags. You might find flowers on the frame or a flap style bag with fringe, but when someone looks at all the elements they wont have a question about it in their mind.

fabulous bag darling...wish l hadnt seen it, there is a place for this one in my glass bag cabinet!!! a fab flapper bag......so edwardian....1915-25
tell me when you list it pleeeze..

I love it! Maybe it is so pristine because the original owner prized it so much that she took extra special care when carrying it.

Or maybe she was a teetotaler. I'm beginning to think the reason so many evening bags are trashed is because of the reckless condition in which their owners carried them!

Both the fabric and the trim work on the lining look original - they are certainly consistent wih the age of the bag.

LOL Lizzie! Good point!

Thanks for your help, all. I actually put a reserve on this one because I think starting at my investment might scare people off! I finally got it up late last night. I very much appreciate your comments & advice on this -- it's really not the kind of thing I generally find.

Sara -- it's up ;)

kristine your listing looks great!
and why oh why don't i live in the US - i want your atomic table and chairs so badly, they really rock... :sniff:
(off to trawl furniture section on ebay uk :BAGUSE: )

LOL sorry Harriet!!
I really LOVE that atomic table. I just raised the price on it, too. We're about to put it in an antique mall space.
I love that table so much that I'm selling it. Truly! What with my greasy, car-lovin' DH & my tomboy DD... I'm afraid what might happen to that nearly pristine vinyl if it stays here any longer!
