I will post blurbs as I find them...and I don't know if I will have time tonight to dig too much. I will try to search for more information tomorrow.
From a 1959 article: "One of the able young men in this broad field is Roy Gaynor, sole designer for 'Anita Modes' dresses who, still in his 20's, has evidenced such a gift for what will please the smart American woman and adapting it to her needs that the firms business has mushroomed in the seven years he has been there."
From a 1997 article: "RoyGaynor is one designerwho has switched successfully from dressing people to dressing windows.The director of design and development for Ellery Products, and now winner of the HomeTex award, started his career with Anita Modes, a women's apparel manufacturer in 1955. Fifteen years later, he crossed the bridge from apparel to home furnishings - and did it without leaving apparel entirely behind....The HomeTex award is by no means the first time Gaynor's work has been recognized. In 1956, but one year after beginning his career, he received the Fashion Group Up & Coming Designer award, which was presented to him by then-New York mayor Robert Wagner...In 1986, Gaynor was honored by Sears, which presented him with its Sears Design Achievement award."
Hi Bella;
Please tell me how you maybe a long lost relative to Roy Gaynor. Roy Gaynor was my uncle. My father was his younger brother, James Fitzroy Gaynor (born in 1936 and now deceased) My father and he were estranged later in life. They had two sisters Grace and Jackie. I was in search of a garment he designed and stumbled across your post!
Hi, this thread is four months old and Bella hasn't visited the forum since the day she posted. Hopefully she'll come along one day and see your message!
Hi Donna;
Thank you so much for your response! I am just happy to be here. I am so excited about finding a resource to search for more of my uncle’s garments!
