Any luggage experts? Is this a cosmetics travel case, and how old?

Hi folks,
I found this little case, I think it's for cosmetics, although no mirror, and I can't see another like it in a Google search. Or is it just the smallest case of a set, not cosmetics? Mens? It is fake leather, lining looks like rayon? There is plastic behind the elastic loops. The outside is a kind of textured suede feel fabric. The clasp says "Astor-safe" so I'm guessing Astor is the brand. Measures 11.5 x 8.5 x 5 inches. Sadly, no key. 1960s or older?

I would call it a woman's overnight bag - large enough to include a change of underwear and all the cosmetics you would need... it looks 1950s to me. It reminds me of the bag Grace Kelly has in Rear Window:
