Any menswear trends in vintage at the moment?

I got an email last night asking me about vintage menswear, which is something I have but tend to just save up (what for? I don't know either!). he basically asked why didn't I stock it!

Reason being I can never decide what to list, as I'm not sure what season guys are buying for/what cuts are hot at the moment, do they want ties or cravats.. etc. etc.

I see waistcoats are becoming a popular buy on the UK vintage scene for the boys, or just dressing like Pete Docherty/ The Libertines. Not sure I can cater for that crowd so much but I do have some nicer 50s stuff saved, and the most AMAZING 3 piece teddy boy drape suit with cherry red velvet trim (it's lined in paisley and I have hung onto it as I want it to be mine, but I can never really wear it as it wouldn't fit - plus it wouldn't suit me!)

Anyone have any advice - or requests from the menswear buyers? I thought I would try and go through what I have got and get some listed for the poor neglected men out there!:)

Except for some runway plaids I've seen and suits with short pants (YEESH!), I'm clueless.

How wonderful that someone wants you to start selling menswear - shows what a great reputation you have earned.

I certainly know their is a man vintage market but I think it is slightly different from the ladies market in several ways
The opportunity for men to wear vintage is even more limited
Men might search on Ebay for certain things but I think it's unlikely that they will pass on much info between themselves compared to ladies as much between each other, ladies are more inclined to do that if they see something which will not fit them but know a friend who is looking for the same. Ladies will even pass on info even about tap pants, I cannot imagine men doing the same about underwear to each other.
I think the men's market may be based on social events especially in the US.

Like this 1920's event from the US
A ladies might go to something 50's and will need her partner to match the period, will the man wear this suite for work after!. A Lady might be able to wear the jacket or dress again even to work.
So I thing research is needed to find out what event are going on and trimming the sales to catch it before it happens ,is very relevant for the men's market.
Where a lady might buy something a long time before hand and in anticipation men are not so inclined to do that.
Also I bet the ladies here will know all male partners cloths size but will the partner know yours?
Often ladies buy on behalf of the man.
Several thing to thing about and hopefully expand upon your self.

Thanks Paul! It's the shopping habits in particular that I keep mental note of - it's a good thing you can sell to men for an event up to the week before (but maybe not so much in advance for some of them!)

Cool, thanks Linda! So I was right about the waistcoats.. seems all the hip young things want to look like 70s rock stars (no bad thing in my book :D ), shall take note!
