any symbolism in this intaglio?

alright, so i recently purchased this intaglio on a whim from the online goodwill auctions. the picture for the auction was horrendously blurry, but I took a chance and won as the only bidder. I don't know if this is due to the fact that I am relatively new to seeing (what I presume to be) victorian glass cameos and intaglios, but this example just has me so smitten with how pretty it is.

so, from what I gather, it's a double cameo of two males. I see that both have facial hair: one a beard, and the other a moustache? when held up to the light the intaglio has a rootbeer/amber type glow. the problem I have is the fact that my knowledge of mythology was, and still is absolutely awful. I feel like due to how carefully carved this one seems, and the specific variance between both figures, that they are supposed to be of importance or symbolic, but I am unable to place them.
