Any Taxco Experts out there?

This pin was given to me as a child, so it's about 60 - 65 years old ... and I have never worn it ... time to move it along. Is the 208 referring to the silver content? Does the "signature" ring any bells?

the silver content is sterling - 925, so no, the 208 does not have anything to do with the silver content.

it's a very cool piece!

The fish are similar to the Christian fish symbol (in fact in combination with the half-eternity loop it almost looks like hieroglyphics) , and I think the other mark is a face or skull upside down from here. Very sweet lovebirds!

That mark is the Mexican "eagle" mark--the number inside relates to the city that produced the piece.
Looks like a #3....#3 is for Taxco~which would make sense since it is stamped..."Taxco"

That was my first thought as well, Melanie -- that it looked similar to the Christian fish. I'm wondering if the mark is only partially impressed? It would be interesting to find who that design number (208 or 1208?) belongs to.

I have a book that lists all the artists to their marks. I'll look later on--hopefully this mark will be listed

Unfortunately the book doesn't have this number so the search continues.
interestingly there is a mexican halmark that does look like the christian fish....but it is from a contemporary designer.
