Any tips for measuring swimsuits

I found a super cute 1970s one-piece but am paranoid that I will measure it wrong and get the size wrong. I think I have it about right, but I am wondering if anyone has any tips for measuring swimsuits. I sort of stretched it out slightly while measuring, tried to measure around the inside of the cups, etc. Any ideas from more experienced people would be greatly appreciated!

I’d love to know this too. Tbh I generally guess by trying it on over underwear to gage it. You can take measurements but some fabrics have a lot more give than others, as there are two way and I think 4 way stretch fabrics. Might even be more than that. Could potentially be a way to gage the amount of stretch from that but to be honest I’m not sure. Hopefully someone with more insight will respond. Might be helpful to post a picture of it too.

Yeah I thought of trying it on but I'm afraid of damaging it as I'm pretty sure it's smaller than I am. It's labelled a size 12 (North American) which I think is probably the equivalent of about a modern medium. That accords with the measurements I think I'm getting from it (36 bust, 32-33 underbust, 28 waist). I'm just a little paranoid of someone buying it and it not fitting. Here's a photo, I had to pin it on the dress form as I don't have the proper type of mannequin for it.
