Hi Jamie.
There is a fur resource if you go to the front page under "resources" for identifying the actual type of fur.
I don't/won't sell fur, but I have absorbed a few tips from people who do. Condition is important. Linings can always be restitched, but if the fur is balding or oily etc it might be a tough sell except as a cutter to use for trims and other projects. Some people have sold those successfully at times though. There are styles that are more popular now just with the cut of the coat and maybe others will give you some advice on that. I will check out the magazines that i just got and take a look at those as well and see perhaps what colors are also popular right now too. Often furs have documentation - most people kept a receipt of some sort for insurance purposes, so also it would be interesting to see how old they are. I think there is a certain age cut off where regardless of current fashion a fur will garner interest. I do believe the 50s and forward are easier to find just because folks saved them meticulously in many cases and after the war people had more money for luxury items. but hopefully someone else will come along and pitch in some tips or where to steer you.
If there are furs that are just unusuable or need extensive rehabilitation, many local chapters of the Audoban society use it in their wildlife rehabilitation programs for young animals who need to be rehabilitated without becoming imprinted by humans.
