Anybody know anything about Harwyn?

hi --

am researching a little jacket I've got here, and have found 3 Harwyn labels. One that appears to be 40s, which is red on white with the word "Original" and a spool of thread -- here's an example on an Etsy (broken) listing:

Then one that appears to be 50s/60s and maybe early 70s, which is on my jacket (see below).

And then I saw one on a shirt that is absolutely 70s, with enormous lapels and western styling, and completely different look to the label, but may actually be a different company (Harwyn shirts).

I can't find anything about the dress/jacket/ladieswear Harwyn, only about the shirts/shoes Harwyn. Both of New York.

Anybody? Isn't the jacket cute? It's like "poor man's Chanel" styling, very nicely made, but of a poly knit. even has elbow darts. I like the grosgrain trim. Too big on me (44+ bust), or I'd keep it.

Your jacket seems to be a product of the Harwyn Dress Corp, for which I found references from at least 1949 to 1975. The 1970s references were usually to patterns for Harwyn items and I found that these order-through-the-newspaper patterns are usually the death knell for designers.
A 1975 pattern ad noted that Harwyn was the "half-size specialists."

HERE is a link to a 1963 ad for Harwyn knits.

And a PROMINENT DESIGNER Harwyn pattern.

Wow! Thank you Lynne (and Linn). I thought this might be a "half-size" company, although I couldn't say why.

p.s. Was it you who posted that incredibly helpful "secrets to search" informational post not long ago? If so, would you mind convo-ing me a link, as I can never seem to find my way back to things. D'oh!

Liza,

Easy-peasy search; no special skills. The Research Tips article was never posted, as I was asked to compile something for possible inclusion in an upcoming VFG newsletter, so I may have e-mailed part one of the document to you (haven't written other parts). I will send it to you again.

Lynne
