Anyone familiar with Gianfranco Ferre? Help?

Awhile back I picked up a very large lot of designer clothing, almost all new with tags.
They seemed to span quite some time in manufacture... and I'm not really familiar with modern designers.
It is kind of a cross between a modern suit blazer and a 40's clutch coat. It has an oversized collar that comes all the way to the hem and sleeves that are very wide from top to bottom. It was really hard to get any of this to come across in the pictures!
It's a dark, midnight blue... and 100% pure wool

Soooo... I have three questions -

1 -help with keywords? Please? Would this be structured? Really not sure where to go with this one...

2 - when would you date this to? Late 80's?

3- if it is actually vintage, do Ferre buyers want to KNOW that? Or are they more like St John buyers in that they'd prefer to not be reminded?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Looks (at first glance) to me to be 80's unstructured. I think Ferre buyers do know & care re: vintage, and unlike with St. John it's a + rather than a - ; also think Ferre's 'stock' as a designer hasn't yet caught up with the esteem in which he's held in the design world.

Totally MHO,

Carolyn ;)

Carolyn,

with that in mind, do you think his stuff should be "catboxed" so to speak or do you think - just fire em when you got em :) (like i would find one..)

yes, i agree w/carolyn...80's unstructured...weren't these also referred to as "boyfriend" jackets? (made to fit like you had borrowed your boyfriend's?? )

Ferre's used to be quite pricey. i haven't followed that sort of garment much lately, tho.

oops... not structured, unstructured!

Ok... so maybe list it as 80's vintage (I really don't have room for catboxing!)
I don't think this is like the "boyfriend jackets" -- Ferre's stuff (at least what I have handled) is a bit more... ummm WEIRD than that. Although that's not to say that it's not a COMMENT on that trend. It's a bit different than just an oversized jacket. It really does (in person, anyway!) bear a lot in more common with a clutch coat... but with some resemblances to a blazer, mostly in collar shape. The sleeves are very wide. I wish I had someone to try this on -- but I REALLY have to make things LEAVE here. Maybe I'll stick it in my store for a bit.

BTW -- the original price on this one was $1,100!!

Thanks, gals! ;)

he was so BIG here in late 80's early 90's, perhpas make sure you can be searched in uk too...
