Hi, I have a 60's military style short-sleeved dress in a pale buttery yellow and the label reads:

designed by Alain Arnaud - Paris - for Malanson

It is very well made and I would say high-end, except for the hardware - buttons and belt buckle just don't seem to add up to the quality of the fabric.

Thanks

Deborah

Deborah, I've never heard of Malanson, but the Arnaud name sounds familiar--all I know; sorry I can't help at all! But am wondering if the buttons & buckle may have been replaced at one time? You can usually tell if the buttons aren't original. ...

The other thing I was thinking...if the buckles, etc were original..maybe they had several lines. I have seen nice fabrics used on clothing, and then also used on a more economical line, but missing the pricier finishing details.

I.e> if you took two dresses...the higher end one has matched welt, brass buckle, brass buttons or something fancier, and if a pattern if is flowmatched. The lower range is not any less in quality in fabric or stitching, but the fabric is not flow matched so therefore uses less so the price can come down considerably, and the buckles are brass tone or completely different all together. THe welting would be a lesser fabric or self welted but the pattern again wouldnt be matched perfectly.
