Anyone recognize the name/signature on this scarf?

Hi, Here's a souvenir scarf from Lake Como, Italy.

I can't make out the signature at the bottom. I tried searching for Guido Fancini and several variations, but I come up empty. Anybody recognize it?

And is the PAT. 80171 the "pattern no" or the "patent no?" I can't imagine a scarf design having a patent, but who knows.

Thanks for help. - Liza 00386-007eflat.jpg00386-007eTag.jpg00386-007eVillad'Este.JPG

PAT should stand for patent, you just need to know which country's website to search under! There's no reason why a scarf design couldn't have a patent though this would probably make it earlier in the century than later. I can't remember the details but in Linn's Jewellery Tutorial there was a useful tidbit about the copywright laws changing to include artwork, which put paid to the need for patents as were used previously.

Ah, Pinkcoke, interesting! Thanks for that info. So, I'm guessing from the name and subject matter that this scarf is Italian. Not sure I want to dedicate to terribly much time researching a scarf (it's not Hermes or anything, so not a major money issue here). If I could just figure out the maker and maybe the decade, I'd be satisfied. Even the decade would do! My guess is 50s, just going by gut and estate info.

It does have a resemblance to some of the late 40's and 50's dress prints. I have a horrockses book here with similar prints, it's nice and bold I can see it tied as a neck scarf.

One of our Trade Member's, INVINTAGEV, is from Italy. Perhaps you could send her a PM, point her to this thread and ask her if she recognizes the maker's name.

I don't think the Pat. is connected with US Patents - not enough numbers. (The case was a jewelry case between Trifari and Charrell and it resulted in jewelry companies using copywrights instead of patenting their designs.)

Hi! I don't know this designer name but I think we can call it " a souvenir foulard" and here something that I found about this type of scarf (by Angelo Vintage Palace, the temple of vintage in Italy, that in 2006 had an exhibition about "foulard souvenir")
..."making it visible to the public the valuable collection of ANGELO (LUGO DI ROMAGNA): about 100 scarves of the 40s - 50s - 60s, from different countries of the world, from 'Alaska to Chile, from Iceland to South Africa, through the' Italy and China, coming to Tasmania.
A trip around the world photographed sights in vogue in those years, all linked to a precise historical moment full of profound change. After the Second World War and the Depression, found an enthusiasm for discovery turns the scarf a holiday gift possible. Not just in the drawers to store postcards or photographs of smiles in front of historic monuments or natural, but a personal choice, even if they want to use, as well as testimony, souvenirs of the trip.
Peace, prosperity, dreams, desire to learn and have fun in a world that can be discovered breaking down barriers and distances, especially in the 50s Souvenir Scarf has written on this path of self-emotions. And it is precisely when each country suggests to explore the exciting geography, sums up the overwhelming strength of its color, lists the "house specialty", which feeds the desire, the great engine of consumerism. ..." I hope this is helpful
