anyone seen Avatar? Worth it?

I'm down to about 3 minutes of personal time a day lately, and need a break! We've not seen many movies lately, and I'd love to go to one on Sunday, but Avatar is the only one that looks remotely possible (sorry, Rock, we're not going to The Tooth Fairy, no matter how nice your smile).

Anyone seen it? Is it preachy? I love the environment, but don't want politics and environmentalism shoved down my eyeballs.
Is the story good or is it all the jazz hands version of technical mastery.

I haven't seen it, but I know lots of adults (including my husband and all my kids, some of whom are adults now) who thought it was amazing. In fact, I've heard nothing but that from the folks that I know that have seen it.

I went with my husband to the 3-D version and it was INCREDIBLE! The storyline is fantastic, not preachy at all and the 3-D is not cheesy but adds a fabulous effect to the movie watching experience. Long gone are the days of red and blue paper glasses.

The movie is long but at no point is it slow or boring. It is esthetically pleasing as well as interesting and definitely one of the better movies that I have seen.

I have recommended it to eveyone of my friends and family. It is not the type of movie that you want to wait until it comes out on DVD as it just wouldn't be the same. If you can catch it in 3-D I highly recommend it and I think they have it in Imax too but that personally makes me a bit dizzy.

I thought it was the best modern film ever made. It's probably a generation film like Wizard Of Oz, and GWTW, Star Wars, Lord, Titanic. 3 D special effects are amazing, and the gamut of emotions are complete. It will be imitated, but never duplicated. Eclipsed, perhaps, but that will be a massive undertaking, unless, of course, it's the sequel. :drinkingtoast:

I agree!!!

I hate fads and was against it before I went. I was shocked. I don't know what makes it so amazing really. I say DO THE 3D... its not cheesy jump out at you but makes it like you are looking out a window and watching it all happen..

Good movie, as good as the hype and I would love to go see it again!!!! too scary for little kids though IMHO. adults don't realize that small children can't quite separate fantasy and reality and some of their animals (ok ALL of them) have sharp teeth and claws. They bite snarls and attack.

I would say as far as preachy and environmentalism ideas go, its as forward as "last of the mohicans" (sp?) there are moral issues as with every movie, there is an established belief system that comes into play often but not long at all. It adds to the story. Its like an adult fantasy sci fi... GOOD!

Hope that helps.

I haven't seen it but lots of my friends have the consensus seems to be that it's amazing but don't look at the plot too hard....it's pretty flimsy/has a few holes.
