I have always wanted to try it but never had the guts. I have an old book (60's -70's) about sewing fur that touches on dying but JUST touches. It also reccomends using hair dye???

well I picked up a rabbit fur coat this weekend and while I try to not buy rabbit, this one has amazing bell sleeves. It is white and has some yellowing, so I thought I'd attempt to dye it. I was cheap like $5 but I'm cheaper and still don't want to ruin it.

Anyone tried it? any advice? help!

Never tried it.
I can only envision a mess if I tried it.
The application, rinsing, etc..without trashing my house or the coat.

Let us know how it turns out.

Kinda funny about the hair dye though it stands to reason it could work
Gee I could have a coat that matched my hair color?

The fur will probably dye nicely, it is the lining that won't. I would probably leave it alone and perhaps put it up for Halloween. Often those white bunny coats have yellowing on them, not sure why??

I would think the surface methods Melody and Lucy talk about would be a lot safer than immersing the whole kit and caboodle!

(I remember my furrier FIL saying that a fur which got a little wet--ie a light rainfall or melting snow--could just be shaken out and draped over a chair to airdry, but anything that got really drenched required professional help, and I'm thinking that probably applies here...)

I find when it gets wet from rain or snow just the outside gets wet and it doesn't wet through the actual leather. I'll admit I have tried to submerge fur before and if you get the whole thing wet rather than just the top the leather sort of warps.
I live somewhere cold :snowman: I wear fur every winter.
