Afternoon all

My name is Emmie. I am 30 (soon 31 yikers!) and married with a little baby boy. I am a teacher and lover of all things vintage but especially 1940's and 50's.

The thing is...I have always been a bit crap at knowing what works well and how to do vintage hair and how to work the vintage look daily without looking like I am off to a fancy dress party.

None of my friends are into vintage clothes or styles and so I am looking for someone who can help me on my vintage journey

Hi Emmie , a starting point for you could be to post a photo of a dress you have or would like and you never know what treasures the members her have tucked away to style it correctly and of course great advice is often given. wearing vintage full time is very much a personal style choose of course it can be dressed down a little for work and up again for your leisure time if you have any, I feel that you have to give some though to where you would like to be some time in the future with your vintage look because this will give some direction from the start to your style and what you buy and save you money in the long term as to if you want to wear a vintage inspired looks or if you are brave enough to go for a more period correct look with original vintage items.

Some people especially those who have no interest in vintage style will look on it as been a costume for a fancy dress party I think you have to forget that if you are thinking about eventually been period correct with the clothes hair and make-up then it's very much more about getting use to your new image which you will have and not thinking too much apart from is it vintage correct along with having the confidence to wear it and be yourself.

There is a vintage make-up and hair studio in Manchester and places like that are a great place to meet like minded people and there are also a few 40's weeks in West and North Yorkshire and there may be others near you.
