i went on my travels yesterday and amongst other things that i bought i bought this cotton apron....

do you know the date of it ? as you can see from the back picture... there are button holes on the straps and the waist band part.. no buttons so i presum that the buttons have been taken off or the apron would have been attached to another item of clothing... uniform or something...

so this is why i need help in finding out what this apron was used for.... nurse apron.... waitressing. or household use...

there are no labels.. but there are 2 initials roughly embroided on the inner waist band.

what do you think....

I would guess nurse from a glance, but need to have a check around. I have a suitcase full of old nursing uniforms etc. from WWI onwards that I have never got round to selling as I never quite finished my research - but that is what I would expect it to be. I have a tin full of button cufflinks with them, may explain the lack of buttons?

That's my guess, too. .. a nurse or a candy striper.

candy striper ??????

thanks i did think nurse.. but was a bit unsure.....as for the date.. i should imagine that would be a bit difficult to pin point... as i should imagine the nursing uniform stayed the same for quite a while.......

When I was in high school during the early 70s we could volunteer at our local hospitals to help out on the floor. The uniform was a red and white striped dress and full white apron. The girls were called Candy Stripers (Stripe, as in red and white stripes). It was a way to look good on your transcript for college. Do they still have them?
