Archive fashion footage

On my search for all things Pattie Boyd I've discovered some super footage of vintage fashions via the British Pathe News archive. You can search for things (Ossie Clark / Biba / Quant / Bus Stop / Christian Dior / winklepickers / skirts / high heels etc etc) and then when you find something interesting ou can click to "preview stills" which gives you a write-up on the piece and lets you view stills from it. Or you can download a preview of the footage free!

I'm addicted already, keep searching and downloading all over the place!

wow, two minutes searching and I've already found otherwise mysterious 'designer Edith Hart' helping dress someone backstage at a 1946 fashion show!

I think this is she...

Either this one, or another from a little further off:

totally addictive! Thanks! :bouncy:

And here's some of her clothing, shown in 1947! I've only ever seen her 60s chiffon blouses...

I hope it worked with your system too! I'm so addicted I've got a major backlog of footage to download now!

Glad I've converted some more Pathe news addicts! LOL!

Liz - If you haven't got there already GO THERE NOW! They've got quite a few pieces on Diana Rigg in the Avengers! Especially fab is a piece called "Avengers on Location" and there's also an outakes reel from that too! As well as a piece called "Dressed To Kill" which is entirely about Jean Varon fashions "inspired by television series The Avengers".

Found a piece in the pathe archive where they're filming in Mary Quant's Bazaar shop during 1964 and they show an outfit with the label showing very clearly. It doesn't say Quant on it, it actually says Bazaar. Has anyone ever seen one of these?

I am desperately trying to download some items but when i click on the symbol to download it, it eventually says that the computer doesnt recognise the format . Any advice? Im on XP pro. thank you,
kelly

Oh dear. :-( Clicking on the download symbol should just take you to a "basket" (and if you've selected the preview version it won't actually cost you anything, but it still saves what you've chosen in a basket form ready to check out).

They do have a help page with lots of links to free downloads and other hints that may be of help.

Keep us updated. If all else fails, I'll try checking out some footage that you need, and then I'll email you the collection email and we'll see if that works.

thanks so much, i will give it another try tomorrow ( a bad cold is sending me to bed earlier than usual!). I think I clicked on some that i was interested in, it added them to the basket, then i went to the basket and clicked on the little symbol next to the video i wanted to watch and it tried to play it but saud something like "format not recognised". Anyway, i will try again tomorrow, maybe my excitemnt got the better of me and I didnt do something properly.

Gosh, I've seen those Avengers clips so many times - they're so fabulous!!!

What was even more fabulous though was watching old cinefilms of my mum and aunt in the 60s! They were transferred to video ages ago, but I've not watched them in ages. It's just so incredible watching these two dollybirds at Christmas 1964 (my aunt seemed to receive a lot of Beatles photos that Christmas and was waving her Ringo picture around and to her heart!! :clapping: ) . As the 60s wear on, boy does my mum look FABULOUS!! She had real Cathy McGowan hair and is wearing these adorable little dresses. I tell her I will never forgive her for throwing them out!!! :(

There's also hilarious (silent, natch!) footage of them dancing in the living room, doing that funny Ready, Steady, Go! audience type dancing. :hysterical:

I'm so glad you've got it sorted Kelly.. I'm afraid you'll be hooked now! I'm deffinately overdosing on old news and documentary footage now. Two new DVDs of 1960s documentaries on Liverpool music arrived in the post this morning so I've been watching bands gigging in the Cavern all evening rather than doing my housework... and I've just had a new wardrobe built in my upstairs bedroom that's extra tall and extra wide so as not to squash any of my long pretty vintage dresses, and has a space especially designed for me to store my handbags too. I could have been filling it up and working out how much new stuff I had space to buy! LOL!

Liz, your Aunt has fabulous taste in Beatles and drummers!

All the footage we have of my mum is when she was a little girl of about five years old in frilly white smocked dresses and masses of blonde curls (like shirley temple... and then when I was born she had the same dresses made and had my hair cut the same so I was like a little clone of her when she was young), showing off and twirling round. She used to be a child model back then, and it took her a while to get over that whole "look at me, I'm twirling!" thing. She still likes all the attention I think. ;) LOL!
