I started to work on my stains again this morning. The ink spot is lighter but I don't think it will come out completely. I've used a variety of home remedies--hair spray, alcohol, nail polish remover, and hydrogen peroxide as well as Carbona and Afta.
When I started to work on the cotton sweater stain, I got out a disposable diaper to put inside so I can work on the front only.
Diapers will absorb HUGE amounts of water. This is something I learned from a talk by a Smithsonian curator many years ago. They were cleaning the lace on one of the older dresses by flushing out the soil with distilled water. The diapers were placed between the lace and dress to absorb the water. According to her, they literally filled several garbage bags every day. Now that the Am Hy Mus. is open again, it will be interesting to see if a dress with a white lace collar is on display.
Hollis, I enjoyed your "Eleanor" blog. Claire
