Asian Vintage...

Do you ever pick up asian vintage? I always wonder if I should get it, when I see it.

Example: there are a couple of 70's Korean maxi skirts at a thrift shop nearby. I am wondering if I should get them.

I went ahead and picked them up, they are cute! The two florals are polyester, and I think the brown/green one is a wool blend. I think the text on the labels is Korean.

They're pretty, and I especially like the green and brown one. I would have bought that for myself.

Are they all lined, or is that the reverse side of the printed fabric?

I'm not an expert, and its easier to judge something in your hands rather than looking at pictures onscreen, but I'm just not getting a 70's vibe from them.

Hopefully the experts will weigh in.

The bright floral one is lined only half way, the red floral isn't lined at all, and the brown and green one is fully lined. They are all ankle length, on me, shorty!

The feel of the florals is polyester/nylon, the brown and green one is more of a heavier, wool blend.

The bright floral one is so fun! And the brown and green one has a fabulous pattern.

I am most certain these are not export items. My instinct, considering there was an older Korean wedding/ceremonial skirt there, is that these are from an estate.

The ceremonial skirt had a bit of 40's or 50's floral rayon sewn into it, as some sort of straps. I didn't pick it up, because I couldn't find the rest of it. :(

I look for old Sari's and kimono's, as well.

I think it depends less on the country it's from and more on what it actually is. Except in some rare cases that is what I've found when I sell.

Waaay in the beginning I remember thinking that if something was from Italy it must be really desirable (go ahead and laugh, I was totally new!!) but quickly learned that isn't the case.

If something has a great quality about it - in this case, (in my opinion) it's the prints on those skirts - they are unique, loud and colorful - that is more important than where it was manufactured.

OK, I should amend what I said. There are times when the country/region of origin is very important or desirable, I should know this as my favorite thing to sell AND buy are Hawaiian items. And I am sure that there are other examples I am not aware of. I guess all I was trying to say is don't limit yourself based solely on that - if something is really fab or similarly kinda dull, make your decision based on that!
